Why Consistent Lessons Matter
Weekly private lessons provide the focus and accountability students need to make steady progress. Individualized feedback corrects technique early, prevents frustrating habits, and turns practice time into meaningful improvement. Students learn
note reading,
rhythm, ear training, posture, bow hold, shifting, vibrato, and musical expression. Ms. Tindall also integrates music history and theory so learners understand what they are playing and why it sounds the way it does. Over time, consistent lessons build discipline, problem-solving skills, and performance confidence that carry into school, ensembles, and everyday life.

Lesson Options and Duration
Tindall Private Studio offers three weekly lesson lengths to meet different ages and individual goals:
• 30 minutes: ideal for young beginners and busy schedules.
• 45 minutes: recommended for some elementary through early high school students.
• 60 minutes: best for advancing players, audition prep, and in-depth repertoire or technique work.
Students enroll for one lesson per week during the school year and may continue in summer for uninterrupted progress. Families can switch between in-person and online formats as needed with advance notice.

Ages, Levels, and Instrument Choice
Instruction is available for children, teens, and adults—absolute beginners through advanced high-school level. Primary instruments taught are the violin and viola. Beginners focus on
how to hold the instrument and bow correctly,
music reading, listening skills, and simple pieces that build coordination and confidence. Intermediate and advanced students
study scales, etudes, shifting, vibrato, orchestral excerpts, and solo literature appropriate to their level. Adults are welcome, whether returning after years away or starting fresh.

What Happens at the First Lesson
Your first lesson begins with a friendly conversation about goals, prior experience, and any ensemble commitments. For new students, Ms. Tindall evaluates instrument sizing and setup, checks posture and bow hold, and introduces a simple rhythm or open-string exercise. Returning players play something familiar so she can assess tone, intonation, and technique. You’ll leave with clear practice steps, recommended materials, and a suggested lesson length. Parents are
always welcome to observe lessons and, in fact, for the younger students, are encouraged to attend and observe all lessons to understand how to support practice at home.

The Ongoing Lesson Process
Each week includes warm-ups, technique, repertoire, sight reading, and short theory or history connections. Students receive measurable goals for the next lesson—such as mastering a bowing pattern, improving intonation in a scale, or shaping a musical phrase. Ms. Tindall celebrates progress while providing specific, kind corrections that keep motivation high. When appropriate, students prepare for solo performance, school performances, youth orchestra auditions, or festival entries with mock auditions and performance coaching.

Practice Expectations at Home
Consistent, focused practice is the engine of progress. As a guideline:
- 30-minute lessons → 30 minutes of practice, 5 days a week (150 minutes total)
- 45-minute lessons → 45 minutes of practice, 5 days a week (225 minutes total)
- 60-minute lessons → 60 minutes of practice, 5 days a week (300 minutes total)
Practice plans are broken into short, achievable tasks so students know exactly what to do: tone exercises, scale work, targeted measures, then full-run musical playing. Parents receive tips for encouraging practice without pressure.

Online Option:

Payments and Accepted Methods
Tuition is billed monthly based on the selected weekly lesson length. Payment is due at the first lesson of each month. Accepted methods include cash, check, Zelle, or Venmo; electronic options can be arranged in advance.
Goals and Motivation
Performing helps set goals, boosts confidence, and celebrates hard work. Traditional students are required to participate in their school orchestra program. If their school does not have a school orchestra program, the expectation would be to join the local area youth symphony that is appropriate for their age and advancement levels. For students with specific aims—seating tests, youth orchestra auditions, school solos—Ms. Tindall builds a plan with timelines, mock auditions, and feedback so they feel prepared.
In-Person and Online Lessons
In-person lessons at the Davenport studio provide hands-on instruction on how to hold the instrument and bow, as well as tone quality. Online lessons are a flexible alternative for families with transportation constraints. For online lessons, students should have a charged device, a quiet space, a music stand, and their books ready. Camera angles and audio tips will be provided to make remote learning effective.
Music Styles, History, and Theory
While classical technique forms the foundation for violin and viola, students explore styles appropriate to their interests—folk tunes, hymn arrangements, film music, and more—while learning how scales, chords, and historical context shape the sound. Short, engaging theory mini-lessons reinforce note reading, rhythm, and key signatures so students understand the music they perform.
